DIY Feather Headband

These head bands arent new, but I'm still excited to have finally made a couple myself. When browsing through Michael's, I found a couple feather pieces that were basically ready to go. All I had to do was attach them to something. Since often regular headbands can hurt my head, I opted for the stretchy elastic ones. If these are the type you go with, be sure that you get the no-slip kind!

Cut yourself a piece of felt that matches the shape of your piece. Heat up the glue gun!

Lay out a strip of hot glue across your feather piece and carefully press the elastic band across it. Let set and cool a minute or two.

Apply glue to the felt all the way around the edges and throughout the center. Flip, and carefully press onto the back of the feathers and over the band.

With the thin band, it looks more like a fascinator than an actual head band.

C'mon girls! Lets bring back the hats and fascinators of days past! hehe

Janu-Hairy : Fair well

In our third week of Janu-hairy, Kyle has gotten to the point of misery and called "uncle". I assume that when I see him tomorrow after work he will be 100% clean shaved - and even a LOT happier - and I doubt I'm going to ever hear him want to grow his facial hair again for a very long time.

Yeah, we had a couple laughs each time I'd take his "Mug Shot". hehe

And he did cheat this week and trim it up because he felt "like a hobo". Thats why its isnt uber scary thick anymore.

But since even his mom says he looks like a bum with the beard, so he gets to have his face back. 

So Janu-hairy, it's been interesting and got a lot of mileage out of ya, but it is time to bid you fair well. Bring on the razors!!

S.S. Question Mark : Week 3

This week's question is another one that seemingly isnt that difficult to answer, but I am still having a hard time coming up with one.


What is the best thing that has ever happened to you?

To me this seems to be one of those things you cant answer until you are much older, have made tons and tons of memories, and can reflect back. Right now for me if could be having my children. Or if I look at things in a different light, I can look at my divorce as a good thing because I get that second chance to make a new life for myself and my children. One seems to go hand in hand with the other though. So for now, I'll call it a tie even though its still a sorta up in the air for me....I think there's so much more to happen in my life to make the call. (But I'm sure my kiddos will still take the prize =D )

Just a lil' snack

I meant to post this yesterday, but I was taking a much needed technology break. It's funny how addicted we are yet so relieved when we put our phones or computers away for a day.

BUT

On to my little snack!

These were pretty popular this year, and I dont even really know what to call them! I made these for Christmas and they were soo good! First off, you need pretzels. Mini twists or the little square ones, it doesnt matter. I made them with Kisses and Rolos, topped with an M&M, Reese Piece or almond.

Lay out parchment paper on a baking sheet. (I was out so I had to improvise with wax paper...I really wasnt a fan.) Next lay out the pretzels in rows and top with your candy of choice. Put in the oven set at between 250 and 280 only for a few minutes. The Rolos melt faster than the Kisses so you may want to do them separately. When you take them out they will just look a little shiny, not melted all over the place, like pictured above.

Carefully press an M&M or whatever else you have chosen into the top of the chocolate then let cool and set up in the fridge. Our favorite way to eat them was cold. The caramel in the Rolo may be a tad hard, but its so good.

** Be careful not to have your oven too hot or this is what will happen to your chocolate! ** My first batch was flawless...but with these I got impatient and set the oven too hot thinking it would be easier. I was so wrong. The chocolate actually kind of hardened and it was extremely difficult to press the candies into it. The chocolate was hot but not melted. This is why it is always important to slowly melt your chocolate over lower heat!! Otherwise it isnt tempered properly. Fortunately, it still tasted and ate the same...just wasnt as pretty as my first batch. (Which of course I didnt get pictures of. =(  Bummer.) 

GF: Glutino is a brand that has Gluten Free Pretzels. Snyder's is also GF. (Just be sure you ALWAYS read the labels and ingredient lists.) So this is another easy and yummy GF snack.

Past Projects

Shortly before my girls were born, I up and decided I was going to sew and make everything for them myself; even all the way to cloth diapers. (But after not being able to find the right material and two stints in the hospital, those ended up just getting purchased.) I very much surprised myself with my outcomes because everything I've made - minus two or three articles of clothing for myself - has been my own creation and done completely on my own. Never be afraid to just go after something and try it out! 



The first pair of shoes I made. Hand sewn

I was a little more creative with these.

Car Seat covers. I started off with a pattern, but it didnt really fit the dimensions of the seats, so I did most of it on my own.

Drapes I made for the car seats. I was so in love with this Tudor Rose patterned fabric!

And the underside. I attached snaps to the ribbons and the outer side of the fabric and they could be detached to use as a blanket. I didnt want them to be useless later especially with how much I liked the fabric.

These are crib dividers/toy holders. I felt quite ingenious when I came up with these for my twins to share a bed until they were bigger without rolling over on each other and bothering the other.

Bibs

These were my first try at bibs but I cut them too narrow and was pretty much just wrong all around. BUT I took the mess up and turned them into bath mitts.

Ribbon edged burp cloths.

Reversible Bedding

Reusable bags. I made these with the intention of using them for used cloth diapers when we were out. But they can be used for anything; snacks, etc.

I cross stitched these for a long time. I didnt use a pattern, I just happened upon pictures of this cupid and thought it was so cute. I was able - after lots of charting and agitation - to figure it and the lettering out on my own. I love the little bow that I added after the rest was done. They just needed to be a tad more girlie. I cant wait to finally get these nice and framed up and add the girls' pictures to the opposite side of the cupids (where the "x"/cross is)
